Why Adult Learners Choose Doane

Why Adult Learners Choose Doane

Life leads our students to Doane. No matter where you come from or how much education you’ve received, you’ll fit in at Doane, where we pride ourselves on our collaborative and inclusive learning communities.

It’s here where you will complete your degree or earn another. Through it all, our students realize their potential and find that they’ve developed the skills and training necessary to achieve it.

You Do This!

For more than 30 years, Doane has been helping adult learners work toward a degree while keeping what’s most important—their family and career—first. With eight-week terms, flexible scheduling and a mix of convenient instructor-led and online courses, our students don’t have to force a college education into their busy lives. It just fits.

Why Doane? We were proud to receive the Seven Seals Award for the state of Nebraska from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) in May 2014, which recognized our commitment to supporting our military students.

Life Experience Equals College Credit

Learning isn’t contained in classrooms. That’s why we recognize that our students, who bring a wealth of life experiences, should be rewarded for their desire to learn. Our programs are designed so students can gain college credit through things like on-the-job training, workshops, volunteering and traveling. Our advisors helps students analyze and document their experience to craft credit portfolios.

Why Doane? You can gain up to 30 semester credits for professional training or work/life experiences. That cuts down the number of classes you need for your degree, saving you time and money.

It's More Affordable Than You Think

At Doane, we match your investment of time with a personalized education in a collaborative setting—all at an affordable price. We pride ourselves on having an amazing value, with some of the lowest fees in the Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha educational markets.

First-Name Basis is Our First Priority

We make each student a priority and Doane is here to help you every step of the way, from the moment we meet you to graduation. Our academic advisors individualize your education by helping you plan for your classes and career. Our experienced faculty understands the unique needs of adult learners and engages each student on a personal level in our classrooms.

It’s Never Too Late

Life has a way of sidetracking your education. We understand that, and we’re here to help you get back on track. It’s why our model of education makes it easy for students to complete their degree, no matter if you are a newcomer or have some college experience. When you earn your Doane degree, you’ll become a difference-maker and leader.

Why Doane? The Lincoln chapter of the American Society for Training and Development recently announced an initiative to improve employer infrastructure in the city, and the group’s Knowledge Management Council was primarily Doane alumni, faculty and students.

Be Anything, Go Anywhere

Options abound in our adult learner programs, and no matter where you’re at in your career or life, a Doane education puts you on the path to success. Our programs will have you climbing the corporate ladder, making a successful career change or finishing a degree. On top of our 12 undergraduate degrees, students can choose from 5 different master’s degree programs and even an advanced education degree.

Why Doane? Cassie Seagren, the deputy chief of staff for economic development in the Omaha mayor’s office, needed a school with the right degree and schedule to help her get a master’s degree.

Right Down the Street

At Doane, education for nontraditional students isn’t a sidebar. We're fully committed to adult learning with conveniently located campuses in three of Nebraska’s largest cities: Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha. Each location is dedicated to our adult learner programs, allowing us to teach and schedule an education that fits in your life—not the other way around.

Why Doane? The college placed an emphasis on enriching its adult education programs by including it in the latest Strategic Plan. The Omaha campus, at 147th and F streets, was opened in January 2014 and was one of the plan’s biggest milestones.
