Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery

Whether it's a journal article, a book, or a book chapter, our InterLibrary Loan and Document Delivery service will get you the item you need.

What is InterLibrary Loan? Sometimes Perkins Library doesn’t own a book, journal article, DVD, cd or other document that you need. We can get that item from you for another library for free!

What is document delivery? Document delivery is a free service for students, faculty, and staff in the Lincoln, Omaha, Grand Island, and Online programs which provides articles/chapter scans of items we have in the Perkins Library in print only.

Crete students, faculty and staff:

  • Crete campus students, faculty, and staff can request materials not owned by Perkins Library through Interlibrary Loan. Most of our databases will have an ILL link in the search results. Or you can place a request using our ILL form.

  • Reciprocal borrowing program - The purpose of the Reciprocal Borrowing Program is to provide the academic community with convenient access to circulating library materials, for teaching and research, as an alternative to interlibrary loan.

Lincoln, Omaha, Grand Island and Online students, faculty, and staff:

Articles, book chapters, and other documents

  • E-mail delivery of articles and book chapters not owned by Perkins Library. Most of our databases will have an ILL link in the search results. Or you can place a request using our ILL form.

  • E-mail delivery of journal articles and book chapters from the Perkin Library's print collections (Document Delivery Request).

Books, CDs, DVDs, and other physical documents

  • Delivery of Perkins Library-owned books to the Doane-Lincoln bookstore for those in the Lincoln area. Physical items will be sent via US Mail to locations outside of Lincoln. The recipient will be responsible for mailing the items back.

    • Items must be returned to the Doane-Lincoln bookstore or to the Perkins Library (Crete) either in person or via mail.

    • Perkins Library offers Interlibrary Loan services to all Doane University students. However, depending on the distance a student lives away from Crete, it may be impractical to visit the campus to pick up your books. We are able to ship the items we receive to you or send them to the Doane - Lincoln Fred Brown Reception Office (room 113). However, the added shipping times will reduce the amount of time a distance student will be able to have that item checked out. As a result, students who find themselves in this situation may find it useful to consult local libraries for their print holdings instead of requesting them through Doane.

    • Students located in Nebraska may get a card at a local college or university library to borrow materials through the reciprocal borrowing program.

    • If you cannot find a library that offers the item you are looking for or interlibrary loan in your area, Perkins Library can ship ILL materials to you. Indicate in the Notes field of the Interlibrary loan form that you would like the item to be mailed to you at a specific address. Perkins Library can also ship our own materials to you. Simply fill out a Document Delivery form online.

    • Please be aware that ILL items will be shipped from the lending library to Perkins Library before being mailed to your location, which will reduce the total allowable time that you will be able to use the item. You will also be responsible for paying for the return shipping of the item to Perkins Library.

  • Reciprocal borrowing card, if you are in Nebraska you can get a library card at many academic libraries in the state for free.

  • Visit us in Crete and check out library materials.
