Professor Houston joined the faculty in 2018 as an Assistant Professor, Director of the Law, Politics and Society program and Pre-Law Advisor. Professor Houston holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Webster Conservatory and a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law. She is an active member of the Nebraska bar. Prior to joining the faculty, she was in private practice. She worked as a litigator in the areas of victim rights, personal injury, product liability, professional negligence and malpractice. She also worked with the National Center for State Courts legal education reform project in the former Yugoslavia. She assisted in the development of clinical legal education programs, experiential arbitration programs, and legal research and writing courses at Iliria College in Prishtina, Kosovo. Professor Houston is trained as a Critical Care Paramedic and previously taught in the Emergency Medical Services Education Department at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Professor Houston is a member of the Nebraska Bar Association, National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians and the Law and Society Association.
Professor Houston’s scholarship interests include health law and ethics, with special interest in healthcare disparities resulting from pre-existing illness and errant diagnosis.
