Human Relations

As an adult learner, it’s a good feeling to know you’re with people from different cultures and backgrounds and that we all accept each other.
Born in Honduras, Lesly Cayetano moved to New York City at 10 years old, only knowing how to speak Spanish. After eventually learning English and graduating high school, Lesly began college, but would temporarily halt her education. As she puts it, “life happened.” She got married and had a child, and decided to focus on her family.
After having four kids and becoming a single mom, Lesly decided to start a new chapter in her life and moved her family to Lincoln to be closer to her father. Working difficult jobs and overnight shifts over the years, Lesly knew she wanted something better for herself and her children.
Lesly returned to school in 2014, enrolling at Doane. Taking classes at the College of Professional Studies Lincoln campus, Lesly was able to balance work, family, and school. “Doane has been flexible, they’re always there,” she says.
As a recent graduate of the human relations program, Lesly would like to work in family therapy and continue her education, pursuing a master’s degree. “I’ve been through so much in my life, I know I can do this,” she says.
