Doane Theatre is a place where dreams become a reality, magic comes alive, and artists are made. Our theatre program empowers artists by preparing them for long-lasting careers in the arts. Students are trained in all areas of theatre, making them adaptable, multifaceted, and resourceful.
Our department is hands on and in-depth. Students build the sets, make the costumes, find and build props, and manage the productions, and casting is never based on favoritism or class standing.
Doane is a safe environment to experiment with any form of theatre or art that you can imagine. Students are immersed in collaboration and mentored by industry professionals whose theatre credits include 37 Broadway Productions and the prestigious Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
As a theatre major or student at Doane, you can:
- audition for any of our main stage or student produced plays
- design and build scenery, costumes, and props
- create sound and lighting designs
- serve as Production Manager, Stage Manager, or House Manager
- direct your own show
- write and produce your own play or musical
The theatre department welcomes all Doane students who wish to participate, regardless of major.
Productions, Awards & Accomplishments
In the world of theatre, a wish of ‘break a leg’ can only take you so far.
Our history of theatrical awards and accomplishments is outstanding. Student performances, set designs and productions spark nominations for scholarships and awards nearly every year.
