Major/Minors & Endorsements

A comprehensive and intensive array of programs are offered for students interested in the teaching profession, whether in:

Elementary Education

This program prepares you to teach kindergarten through eighth-grade. A range of field experiences in your sophomore and junior years help you decide which grade level you would most like to teach.

Students majoring in elementary education must also complete a major or endorsement in:

  • Early Childhood (PK-3)
  • English as a Second Language (PK-12)
  • Mathematics
  • Middle School (5-9)
        **Social Studies
        **English/Language Arts
  • Music (PK-12)
  • Physical Education (PK-12)
  • Science
  • Special Education
  • Spanish

Special Education

This program leads to preparation for teaching children and youth with mild or moderate mental handicaps, learning disabilities or behavioral disorders. Teachers graduating from this program have certification for teaching kindergarten through 12th grade.

Secondary Certification

Teachers are certified for secondary schools when completing a teaching major or endorsement in one of the following areas: 

  • Art  (PK-12)
  • Biology
  • English/Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Music (PK-12)
  • Science
  • Social Sciences
  • Spanish

A second teaching major or endorsement is required when majoring in the following:

  • Chemistry
  • English
  • German
  • Health and Physical Education (PK-12)
  • History
  • Physical Education (PK-12)
  • Theatre
