Hansen Leadership Program NSF S-STEM SUCCESS Scholars Inclusive Scholars Hansen Leadership Program The Hansen Leadership Program (HLP), named after Zenon C.R. Hansen, has been developing student leaders at Doane since 1994. Each year, 40 incoming students with a desire to develop their leadership skills are selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship and live in Hansen Leadership Hall. HLP supports students through their leadership identity development while at Doane, with the goal of preparing students to use their leadership skills in their workplace and communities after graduation. Early Application Timeline Any student can submit application materials during the early application timeline and receive priority selection for the Shield Society. Fill out the application form below. Early applications open November 1st, 2023. Early applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm on December 1st, 2023. Early applicant interviews take place between November 22nd - December 10th, 2023. Early applicant selection emails are sent by December 18th, 2023. Open Application Timeline All applicants who did not apply for the Shield Society during the early application timeline must submit materials during the open application timeline to be considered for one or more of the Societies. Selection emails are sent by February 14th, 2024. NSF S-STEM SUCCESS Scholars The Sustaining Undergraduate Classroom and Career Excellence for STEM Students (SUCCESS) program provides scholarships, research stipends, and programmatic support to help 10 new students each year as they pursue majors in selected STEM fields. Over their four years at Doane, these students have access to close mentoring relationships, customized courses, and research experiences that will lay a foundation for their future careers in STEM careers. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with the review starting November 15, 2023. All SUCCESS applicants and recipients must: be United States citizens/nationals, legal permanent residents, or hold refugee status, declare a major in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, or environmental and earth science (natural resources and environmental sciences) during their entire time at Doane, enroll as a full-time student at Doane University, complete the FAFSA form, be Pell-eligible (this is determined by information supplied when you complete the FAFSA), demonstrate academic potential through a high school GPA of 3.2 or higher. Inclusive Scholars Inclusive Scholars is a peer network that provides a multi-year leadership experience to prepare the next generation of difference makers. Over four years, students learn to leverage inclusive excellence to positively impact innovation, equity, and engagement where they live and work. The Inclusive Scholars experience facilitates students' personal and professional success through individual and team community projects, leadership coaching, and skills-based workshops. Students admitted to Inclusive Scholars receive scholarships that renew yearly. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with the review starting December 1, 2023. Applications received by February 16, 2024, will be given full-consideration for the 2024-2025 academic year. No references necessary. Each Society requires accepted students to live in specific residence halls during their first year at Doane. Students may not transfer out of their housing assignment during their first year without consent of the individual Society Director. Such a move will generally be denied except for demonstrated health or safety needs. After their first year, Shield Society students must follow the standard housing process to acquire rooms for subsequent years on campus.
